Gideon

Gideon is a seven-year-old stallion with a full right hind leg prosthesis for five years now. His stump terminates at mid-cannon, although he does not have any mobility in his hock anymore. His prosthetic was rebuilt to improve upon the gait pattern.

His old prosthesis was heavy and did not fit well enough to give him true support throughout his full range of motion. It was also too long, which required that he circumduct his leg around his hip to bring it forward.

EPI made a temporary prosthetic that incorporated his entire leg to give him more intimate control and better feedback of his prosthesis. It was made much shorter than his original, which allowed him to swing his leg underneath himself.

The owner, however, felt that the daily changes required of this type prosthesis were too burdensome and opted to put him back into his old prosthesis which was only changed once every two weeks.
